2021 Weatherlow Florals Harvest Manager
Weatherlow Farms, Westport MA
Starting at $15/hr
20+ hrs/week April and November (ideally Monday-Wednesday, but could be flexible)
40+ hrs/week May-October (Sunday – Wednesday required)

Responsibilities will include:
– Learning and mastering 300+ flower variety names, habits, characteristics
– Harvest and post-harvest handling of all florals
– Wholesale order preparation and packing (inventory/cooler management, labeling, checking invoices, coordinating delivery routes, quality control, etc.)
– Manage delivery and pick up schedules, as well as performing weekly deliveries
– Market bouquet preparation, assembly, packing, deliveries
– Harvest and management of dried flowers
– Event florals harvesting, preparation, and packing
– Assisting with twice weekly estimates and harvest projections

Additional tasks if time/interest allows:
– Take over, tweak, improve, and manage wholesale ordering system and invoicing
– Assist with field and greenhouse work, including seeding and planting and mulching

Candidates must be:
– Interested in the wild and beautiful world of specialty cut flowers
– Able to work outside in extremely variable New England weather conditions while maintaining a sense of humor
– Willing to work long days, early mornings, and weekends
– In possession of a viable (and clean) drivers license
– Have their own mode of transportation to and from work
– Able to lift 50 lbs.

2021 Weatherlow Florals Field and Greenhouse Manager
Weatherlow Farms, Westport MA
Starting at $15/hr
20+ hrs/week February, March, and November (days of the week are flexible)
40+ hrs/week April-October (some weekends required)

Responsibilities will include:
– Following seeding plan, organizing propagation house, watering, monitoring seedling health
– Following planting plan, transplanting seedlings and tubers and plants
– Following and helping to develop a weekly production task list
– Bed preparation: removal of old crops, broadforking, spreading compost and amendments
– Irrigation scheduling, set up, running, and maintenance
– Foliar feeding and fertigation schedule, set up, running, and maintenance
– Weeding, pinching, and pruning
– Trellis installation and maintenance
– Perennial bed maintenance: weeding, mulching, amending
– Weekly crop assessment: walk greenhouses and fields, scout for disease and insect pressure, crop health, develop weekly and monthly task lists
– Weekend watering/greenhouse duties TBD with other team members

Additional tasks if time/interest allows:
– Plan new perennial plantings
– Propagate perennials through cuttings
– Assist in development of 2021 seeing and planting plans
– BCS walk-behind tractor usage and maintenance
– Greenhouse monitoring and maintenance

Livestock & Land Manager

Weatherlow Farms, founded in 2014, is located in the seaside town of Westport, MA. We raise the highest quality grass-fed beef, lamb and pastured poultry and have a specialty cut flower operation. All are cared for employing environmentally sustainable and socially responsible practices which focus on the special relationship between land, animal and food.

Job Description: Coordinate and direct the operation of on-farm livestock program. Management intensive rotational grazing for grass fed beef, lamb and poultry.

Reports To: Farm Owner

Duties and Responsibilities:

Management of the On-Farm Livestock:

– Be responsible for all aspects of livestock management
– Design and implement grazing program
– Manage pasture quality
– Source animals and draft contracts
– Maintain animal welfare
– Make suggestions for infrastructure
– Make recommendations for animal processing
– Assist in marketing
– Assist in budgeting and business planning
– Record keeping
– Veterinary relations
– Herd registry & regulatory compliance
– Provide criteria to help recruit employees
– Train employees in appropriate aspects of livestock care and marketing
– Help develop job descriptions, policies and procedures
– Develop and delegate daily tasks and planning
